SPECIAL REPORT: Cactus Joe's Wednesday Open Mic in MOVING!

Hi Everyone.

This is unrelated to the COUCH CONCERT, but it will be of interest to most of you music lovers and performers.

Cactus Joe's Open Mic Night on Wednesdays is moving to Cambridge WI, and I will explain why.

The consensus is that people (both audience and performers) want to keep this going. It's popular. Since Brink Lounge can no longer accommodate it due to conflicting events, I did some scouting for a new venue.

And I found a cool one. Cambridge WI has a cable access channel (TV4) and the director, Gary Zibell, accepted my pitch to film Cactus Joe's Open Mic at the Amundson Center in historic Cambridge on Wednesday nights.

So now we have a venue and also a film crew and a Television broadcast to boot. ALL FREE! (Actually, it might cost me $10 to rent the Amundson Center on Wednesdays, but if it is not waived, I will do that for you...).

Sweet, huh?

Here is how it will work.

It will still be on Wednesdays at 7 PM, just like at Brink. It now will be held at the Amundson Center - 200 Spring Street, Cambridge, WI. That is a straight shot east on Highway 12/18 from Madison, no stopping.

Amundson Center is a large room with a performance area and tons of seating. Huge FREE parking lot in front. Two fine dining establishments across the street if you want to bring a date.

Due to the TV show filming, the format will be more structured - two opening performers of 15 minutes each, followed by a 30 minute showcase act.

Because of the coordination of people (film crew, ME, YOU), if you are a performer, I will need to schedule you IN ADVANCE now, so E-MAIL ME if you want to perform and the preferred Wednesday and time slot (opener 1, opener 2, or showcase headliner).

ACOUSTIC ACTS ONLY (the Cambridge Library is upstairs...). You can be a band, but you must be able to perform acoustically or very low volume. You need to arrive no later than 6:30 PM to set up you music equipment. A small PA will be used for vocals, but most instrumentation will be all acoustic.

The first "episode" will be on Wednesday 12/9/09 at 7 PM. I already have my 3 performers for that night, but I am soliciting for performers for future Wednesdays (12/16 is the priority). E-MAIL ME soon if you are available 12/16 to perform. Once you are booked, invite as many people as you can.

This is a public community event. Tips will be accepted by the musicians, but the event is FREE and performers receive NO COMPENSATION beyond exposure and generosity (tips). You are encouraged to tell your friends to come and support you. The more applause the better.

Cambridge Cable Access TV (TV4) will film the event and it will be broadcast 12+ times per week between episodes. This is a great opportunity to get your music heard by a wide audience, and if you know me, you know this show will be awesome and far more entertaining than Village Board Meetings (which are important for the public record, don't get me wrong...).

NOTE: We cannot promote anything commercial on the program. Artist credits and links to web sites etc. will be shown on the screen during performances. No foul language.

If you would like to attend the OPEN MIC as a spectator, all are welcome. E-MAIL ME HERE to RSVP (not required, but helps me estimate head count.

Exciting!
